Frances Britain - Woking District Leader A bit about meI'm one of the Assistant Leaders for ‘Surrey 2’. I have been part of the Scout Family ever since I can remember - Mums’ Cub camp as a young child and then Dads’ Venture Scout camps in my early teens, so Scouting is in my blood really! When I was 21, I became involved with Raleigh International, participating in a 3 month expedition to Guyana, South America, with 100 other people who I had never met before. During this time we carried community projects and trekked around exploring the country. When I am not Scouting I don't sit still ‘twiddling my thumbs’ - As a keen rock climber and mountaineer I am most happy balanced on a piece of rock! A member of the local climbing club, I am always trying to find ways of getting out of the DIY on the Victorian house that my husband Steve (Assistant leader in Surrey 1 Contingent) and I are slowly doing up. If I can’t go climbing then you’ll find me with my running shoes on instead, as I’m also into running and have completed a couple of road marathons and a mountain marathon. My Scouting CVVenture Scout - Trojans VSU. Gained the Queen's Scout Award. Leadership - Assistant Scout Leader with St Johns. In 1997 I re-started the Brookwood/St Johns Venture Scout Unit with David Porter. I'm now a District Venture Scout Leader in Woking District Scouts and soon to become a District Explorer Scout Leader. |
